We’re into March, but I’ve waited for quite a while to get this month’s Shelflife #SneakOfTheMonth entry up… As you may well know, today is Air Max Day, so it would seem a tad rude if I didn’t pick a brand spanking new pair of Air Max as this months kicks… So, I give you the Air Max 90 Superfly. It’s pretty special.
I’ve already given away R1000 of Shelflife vouchers over on my Twitter in celebration of Air Max Day 2016, but keep your eyes out next month when we’ll be doing it all over again.
Nike Air Max 90 Ultra Superfly T
Price: R3299
First things first. These kicks are expensive. At R3299 they’ll probably be the most expensive pair of Air Max that you’ll find in South Africa. They are, however, super exclusive.
In fact, unless you queued up outside Shelflife in Cape Town this morning or are/were at the Air Max Day celebrations in Braamfontein, the chances are that you didn’t get a pair. They’re that rare.
Aesthetically, I love the colour scheme. There’s something very old school Nike about the 90s – which is one reason why they’re such a popular shoe – and the sock fit brings them in line with a lot of what Nike has been doing in 2015/16. I just think they look very cool.
My take: 7/10
These kicks won’t suit everybody, that’s the only downside to them. They look incredible as standalone trainers and if you can pull them off then you’ll be the envy of sneaker freaks across South Africa. A classic with a modern twist.
SNEAK FACT!!! – Tinker Hatfield’s idea for Air Max – visible air – came to him after he visited the Pompidou Centre in Paris, France.
