Scottish Premiership side, Hearts of Midlothian, have not it had it easy of late, and they’re only alive today because of their fans. Their new third kit says thank you to them.
I’m a fan of soppy football stories, they make me feel a little bit better about the game that I love when I sometime have my doubts.
To cut a long story short, in June 2013 Hearts went into administration. The following month a supporters group called the ‘Foundation of Hearts’ submitted a bid to buy the club. They got relegated from the top-flight and then won the Scottish Championship. The foundation have put millions of pounds into the club via donations from fans, and in June of last year they officially exited administration. Unreal stuff from a truly amazing fanbase.
Now, it was announced yesterday, Hearts have launched their official third kit for the season, and it is laden with the names of the 8000 fans who reached the required FoH fan reward threshold in February.
“We are absolutely delighted to see this project come to fruition.”
Brian Cormack, the Chairman of the Foundation of Hearts told the club’s website, “This is an immensely proud and emotional moment for everyone associated with the Foundation of Hearts, and we are absolutely delighted to see this project come to fruition.
“This shirt does not just feature a list of fans’ names; it pays fitting tribute to the 8,000 and more supporters who have together saved this great club.”
Great story eh? And even better is that the shirt itself is actually really nice. 🙂
