Shelflife #SneakOfTheMonth – July 2019

We’re now officially more than halfway into 2019, and there’s been some killer kicks on show over the past seven months – I won’t lie, it’s been hard to select one pair every month to choose to showcase here on yeswecrann.co.za!

Yet pick one again I must… I’ve literally just made it in time to select a Shelflife #SneakOfTheMonth for July, with the transfer window in my real job keeping me very busy over the last few weeks as silly-season gets into full swing. But July 31 is still July, and I’ve picked a goody for your perusal as this month comes to an end.

“That may be just because they used Virgil van Dyk as the model…”

I’ve chosen the black and white colourway for this particular pair because I think it’s maybe more suited to more people, even though I think I personally prefer the colourful ones, but I think that may be just because they used Virgil van Dyk as the model for them ?and he looks cool AF.

But anyway, here you have it, the #SneakOfTheMonth For July…

Look, first and foremost, I will vouch for the Air Max 270 sole for the rest of my life. I got a pair of the originals when they came out, and they’re so incredibly comfortable that they’re often my go-to pair when I’m not sure which ones I fancy putting on when I go out. The fact that they’ve merged them with the React is very, very cool…

I also don’t think you can really go wrong with a black/white/grey colourway, because it’s just a combination that seems to suit everyone. They’re also utilising what they call a ‘no-sew technique’ something that they believe ‘makes the panels look like they’re floating in mid-air’. You can see the inspiration from the Air Max 1 and Air Max 93.

I haven’t actually gotten a pair of these on my feet (yet!), but I can only imagine what kind of goodness can come from mixing the 270 bubble with the React foam technology – and I think that’s ultimately what you’re paying for if you’re willing to cough up two and a half grand for a pair. If you’ve got it though, they look well worth it – and the colours are perfect when it comes to keeping them looking fresh for longer.

My Take: 8.5/10
I’ll always be a sucker for this colourway in sneakers, because it’s so classy and versatile – these sneakers are the sort you could even wear with a suit and they wouldn’t look out of place. I know what the Reacts and the 270s feel like, so I don’t even have to try these to know how comfortable they’re going to be – the only potential stumbling block is possibly the price. I’ll most definitely be saving up and getting a pair form myself though!

SNEAK FACT!! – According to Nike, their chemists spent around spent three years testing new materials and design methods as they looked to give their athletes a better running shoe – and after about 400 combinations they landed on what is now the React sole.
