As I’m sure you know, today, October 21st 2015, is Back To The Future Day. For those that don’t know or like the BTTF franchise it’s just another day in October, but for those of us that love the adventues of Marty McFly, it’s a big day!
Anyway, Michael J. Fox, the guy that played Marty in the films, sadly has Parkinsons Disease. He has raised millions and millions of dollars for Parkinsons research over the years, and despite being diagnosed in 1991, has continued to be as active as he can.
One thing that many BTTF fans will remember is the self-lacing Nikes that Marty found in the future in BTTF Part 2. Being a sneaker freak myself, I have slight more interest in that aspect than others, and I’ve been following the talk of bringing the shoe to life properly for a while now.
A version of the MAG was released on limited edition in 2011, but this time it’s the real deal. Self-lacing and everything! 🙂
Today, on the most fitting of days, Nike showed it to the public. And how did they do that? By giving the first EVER pair of proper Nike MAG trainers to the man who first wore them. Michael J. Fox. Amazing right?
Here’s the moment he tried them on:
And here is the letter that the famously amazing Nike designer, Tinker Hatfield, sent to him:
The show will be released to in Spring 2016, limited availability once again, and prepare yourself for arguably the most exciting sneaker release of all time. Even better is that the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Nice work, Nike.
I have wanted these for as long as I can remember!
